Day 83 – If You Could Promise Me

It might make a difference,
it might change my mind
if I knew she wouldn’t
be me

These hard-fought gifts
iced-over to protect
couldn’t warm a child,
already failed
at fighting fear

If you could promise me
I wouldn’t worry,
wouldn’t go believing I
was dragging on
in her

If you could promise me,

I wouldn’t worry

wouldn’t mind the weight
of carrying on.
