I never wanted to disturb you, wouldn’t
ask for anything to cause you pressure-
you were made of sparkling glass,
just like my father, every other man
who came after him, they all were
beautiful, enchanting, but so breakable
if I were to speak out of turn, so volatile
if I ever touched the glass, I moved
my heart out of their way to keep them safe
from the things I’d ask for, I never dared
to ask the truth from you, never dared
to risk breaking you with the things I need.
But so it goes, I’ve no need for
anything from glass men anymore-
they’ll be safe and unbroken without me
while I’m being loved by someone of flesh and blood
and your truth that I couldn’t ask for
is a truth I no longer want.
Very evocative description of a certain type of relationship.
