I bask in these dark shadows because I
imagine I know what they mean
like it’s a secret mark of honor
to be erased
You leave me out of your memories,
you never answer when anyone asks,
“What were you two doing, together,
in the darkness, all that time?”
You know we were building worlds
and tearing them apart, we were
growing our power too fast, it was
kindness on the earth when they cut us off
And it would have been sensible, maybe
if I could’ve joined your pretending too
but my power expands when left to persist
in the darkness, you know that all too well
And I’m left to remain the only one
you don’t mention anymore, I’m left to imagine
it means you remember, because
I couldn’t bear it if you don’t
