Day 101 – Take Two

She said take two
when you’re stressed
and let me know
how that works

But I get so down
that I take three
or four or five

One time I took
the whole bottle
and I showed up at her door
in a panic-

“What’ll happen to me now?”

So she gave me gin and tonic
and she told me not to worry-
“It’ll all be over soon anyhow”

She peeled back the label-
they were candy after all!
and I haven’t worried much
ever since.

Day 21 – Come Down

Come down
from your ivory tower-

come speak to us,
speak with us
like we do.

From way up there
no one can hear you
but the clouds.

If you want us to listen
you’ll have to do better.

Come down
and be one of us.

Day 225 – Hey Man, Slow Down

Four years have gone by,
she had something to prove,
and now she’s nothing like she was.
He wouldn’t recognize her,
how fast she moves
to cover all the ground she missed
with him.

She’s been running from little sprinkled diamonds,
a modest asking for her life and soul,
a ring around her neck and lowered ceilings;
she keeps too busy to remember all that.

Some people go into hyper-drive
when they smell a rotten fairy tale.

Hey man, slow down.

She said no man could do it,
four years later she’s still
on the run from somebody
who’s not there.

He said Hey man, slow down,
put his bags on the bus,
and never breathed a word of it again.

And she says Hey man, slow down,
there’s nobody here
but I can’t stop and I can’t
slow down.

I can’t stop and I can’t slow down.
